Hanka: An Archival Journey

We are pleased to present a newly created timeline tracing the fictional character Hanka across authorial texts and cultural contexts. The timeline was developed by Feđa Kulenović, an assistant at the Department of Comparative Literature and Information Science, University of Sarajevo, using original archival materials from the Museum of Literature and Performing Arts of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Conceived as part of the exhibition “Hanka”, curated by Ifeta Lihić, the timeline begins at the 1922 medico-legal autopsy that inspired Isak Samokovlija and follows the character’s transformations from early publications and the 1931 stage premiere to the 1955 feature film and later revivals and all the way to the present.

Visit the exhibition in the gallery MAK of the Museum of Literature and Performing Arts of B&H to explore how archival evidence reveals the layered life of a character who has become a lasting reference point in our cultural memory.
